San Sebastián

As we came into this magnificent city we came in along the Urumea River which flows into the bay here.
This was the very high end casino during the high season in the 1800s but now it's the city hall.  The queen of Spain established a residence here in the 1800s when her doctor ordered "sea air".
The beach is 4 km long. There are three large beaches. We stayed on the one the farthest north which is considered the "surfing" beach.
This place is half the cost of France. Beautiful food and wine but reasonable!
Below is the tapas restaurant we chose close to our pension. It was fabulous.

These are our new French friends. We shared a table and she and I shared authors.  She reads very quality US authors. A lot of fun to attempt to communicate.

We ran into these Brits in the lift at the parking garage. They were just back from Pamplona which is right down the road.  Apparently that lasts all week and one can run any morning (with the Bulls) as long as you get there before 8 a.m.
We ate at one of the restaurants along the beach for brunch. Double Spanish omelet with ham and potatoes is great.
