Zagreb

We Zagreb is the capital with 800,000 people. There are 4 million people in the country.
This is Thomas our pedicab driver. This city has beautiful parks and buildings and hills!
Also it's very clean. They hose it down every night.

Sometimes this country has been free sometimes controlled by another country. When the Hapsburg Empire controlled it building s were painted yellow.
Yellow was Maria Teresa s favorite color.

A sculptor named Mestrovic did this work below and the one of Tesla.
This is Tesla. Both the Serbs and the Croats claim him. He lived here for a while.
This is a good place. You should come here.

Split

So Diocletian had this vision. The palace is 300 meters square. Therefore it is a city. This place is a zoo with waves and waves of cruise ship people and buses of tourists.
And when I say it's a city I mean there are hotels and restaurants with in the thing.
So here we see someone built this bell tower.
These guys are college students making money during the summer.
Here is Ed with the guys.
This is their opera house. All I say is:  don't come in the summer.

Mostar

Driving along the road to Mostar.
Beautiful scenery.
In the background is the bridge.  This place is a zoo. We chatted with a guy who was wounded 3 times and his brother was killed before age 27. Many bitter people
Just something that looked interesting.

Kotor

We are in Montenegro on the Bay of Kotor. It's on the way from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo.
I'm going crazy over the fish soup here.
We took a boat ride around the Bay it was so hot.
This is one of those Windjammer boats.

Sarajevo

This city is very beat up and dirty.
A church.
The brewery. During the 44 month war from 91 to 94, the only source of water was the brewery.  As people lined up for water they were shot by snipers.
In front of the pink building is the site of the assacination of Ferdinand to start WWI.
This hotel is where the journalists stayed. It was never fired upon.
Ed and I were crazy over the food here. Stuffed everything. This is cabbage. Ed loved peppers.

Dubrovnik II

W We are on the cable car to the top of the mountain. It has a name.
The war took place from 1991 to 94. Those people are alive and live there.
The enemy attacked the mountain to achieve a territorial victory but instead it released world distain.
As a result of the attack of the mountain they lost the war b

I'm just saying it's a beautiful place just don't come during July and August.

Dubrovnik

This place is crazy. There are a zillion people here and it's very small.

This is Ed and the dog in front of the monument to the fallen heroes of 1991.
This is inside the church on the Main Street. The guide book said this was the servants church. The noble church is at the other end of the street.

Here we are in the wine shop Rick Steves recommended. Lovely people but expensive. The

Trani

This is our last stay in Italy. Tomorrow we take the overnight ferry to Dubrovnik.
Trani is famous for its seafood restaurants.
There is also another castle thanks to Frederick II (the same guy from yesterday).

And a very interesting austere Norman cathedral.
There were so many columns.
I had never eaten octopus. This tasted just like white steak. Like pure protein. Ed  said it was the best he'd ever had.
I throw in Ed and Foxie for human interest.
