Saturday/Phantom of the Opera

Neither Ed nor I had ever seen Phantom of the Opera, so today we went. Our seats were way back but it wasn't terrible. We both thought it was a classic show and all the voices were so strong, it was amazing I must say. I mean it was schmaltz, but for one day I can be a 10 year old little girl, can't I?

Dinner at the 21 Club

This is a very famous place. It was included in the Restaurant Week menu so we booked it. It feels like the Yale Club or whatever. In any event, we got thru it, and had a good time.

Museum of Modern Art/MOMA

Today we ventured to MOMA to see the Picasso drawings and the new Matisse exhibit. When we arrived (3:30 p.m.) there was a line around the block. It turned out it was Target free Fridays to get into MOMA. It also turned out that because we had bought the trusty NY City Pass, we could bypass the hordes and get in immediately. Therefore, we viewed and absorbed the Picasso drawings and the Matisse exhibit. Go ahead, ask me questions, we absorbed it. We're ready to explain.

The Winter's Tale/Shakespeare in the Park

Yesterday, once again, Ed journeyed to Central Park arriving around 6:30 a.m. for tickets for The Winter's Tale. He was fourth in the Senior line. While he waited until 1 p.m. for the ticket distribution, he networked with his fellow seniors. When we arrived for the performance that evening at 8 p.m., Ed knew everyone in our section. Our seats were in the first row. The performance was perfectly executed, the sets were quite clever, and the stagecraft was very interesting to see so close up. There was a breeze and a full moon, no rain, it was very excellent. However, the plot is pretty lame. You can see a parallel to Henry VIII in the first half and then the second half is purely
Shakespeare with his pairings to end the play.

United Nations

Today we took the tour of the United Nations. Of course, there were a lot of tourists from all over the world, etc. We took a guided tour, you see our guide in the photos, she was from Austria. I guess they have guides from all over the world. The guide gave a scripted pitch to explain all the good the U.N. does in the developing world. It was quite moving. I bought it. This complex was built in the 50s so now it is 60 yrs. old. They have $2 billion to rehab the buildings and it will take 5-7 yrs. to do it. The tall bldg. is empty and all of those people are in other bldgs. all around this part of town.

Dinner at Fishtail by David Bourke

Hey, I don't know. Apparently, he's a local guy who knows what he's doing with restaurants. In any event, it was a lovely place. What they do is pack everyone into those teeny little tables along the wall, and everyone starts talking to their neighbors, and everyone is happy! It actually worked. The presentation was quite exquisite and the food was good. So there you go!

The Museum of New York City...............

Today we stopped at this museum on our way to one of our restaurants for Restaurant Week. It is located in one of the gorgeous mansions facing Central Park on Fifth Avenue. Half of the museum is being redone. As a result, there were only a few things to look at, but it was well meaning and nice.
