Monday Nite in Central Park: Paul Simon's Capeman

Once again Ed got to Central Park at 6 a.m. to stand in line to get us tickets for Capeman. This is an opera that Paul Simon wrote about a true story that happened to a Puerto Rican young boy who came to NYC and ended badly. There was a lot of talent in it and it was beautifully produced, but the book was very amateur and clunky. It was produced on Broadway in the 80s or so and closed after 12 performances. I think they thought they had improved it, but to me, it was still very difficult to watch. Ed was not as critical as me, he thought the singing was very good (which it was).

  1. The "Capeman" premiered in 1998, (not the 80s) It ran for 59 previews and 68 regular performances (not 12)
