Down by the World Trade Center

They have made vast progress since we were here a few years ago. There is a very nice remembrance center where people can record their memories of 9/11. It is very tastefully done.

Columbia University--Around the Corner

We walked thru the university on our adventure walking thru Harlem. The major buildings on campus were designed by Stanford White. We were on our way to a much hyped restaurant in Zagat's. We walked from Columbia to Harlem in minutes. They are separated by Morningside Park which is also amazing.

Aunt Margaret's 100th Birthday Party

On Sunday, June 6, 2010 we travelled to the Jersey Shore to celebrate my Aunt Margaret's 100th birthday party. Here is her picture. She is quite sharp and looks great as you can see. I only have 3 cousins and we were all there. We don't get together very often as they live in the Midwest. Specifically, Madison, WI and South Bend, IN

First Celebrity Sighting--Monday, June 7, 2010

The first place we went on Monday was B&H Electronics (at 9th Ave. & 34th Street). This is my new favorite place in NYC. It has the most extensive and best prices on everything from telescopes to film making equipment. It is run by Hasidic Jews but they also employ anyone who is knowledgeable about their products. We were in the binocular department and there, upgrading her bioculars, was Christine Baransky. Ed wanted me to take a picture of her but I thought that would have been too tacky. She was very intensely interacting with the clerk to get the perfect pair of binoculars. I couldn't figure out if she is going on safari or just to a Yankees game. Here is a view of the store.

The Flatiron Building around 23rd Street

Today is Monday, June 7, 2010 and I am figuring out how to download the photos from the camera to the blog. We are doing walking tours around the City now that we have acquired our Senior bus/subway passes that allow us to travel all over the City for $45 a month unlimited! Last week it was so hot, over 90 every day, that we were worried. But yesterday a new front came thru and today the high was only 75. This is what we want for the entire Summer. We did a little shopping and a little knoshing on our walking tour. More pictures will follow.

Beginning the adventure...the Flatiron Building

During our first week, we hit the ground running, getting our senior half-price bus/subway passes, learning how our building and the neighborhood works, etc. The weather was excruciatingly hot, in the 90s with only one teeny window air conditioner in our apartment. Finally, yesterday, the weather changed and it is only 75 for a high today. Here is the Flatiron Building, close to Madison Square Park, a beautiful park as you will see.
