Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio in Oak Park
This is the house he designed and built for himself when he was 20 years old. He borrowed the money from his employer, Louis Sullivan, who recognized his genius. At the age of 20 he married an 18 year old and they had 4 children. He stayed married to her and lived in this house for 20 years when he was discovered having an affair with the wife of one of his clients.
This is the dining room table and chairs which he designed. The architecture firm would have employed furniture makers (woodworkers) who could make the furniture and do the woodwork. Also sculptures and brickworkers, all types of artisans.
These are the windows in the children's playroom.
This ginkho tree was on the property when he built the house.
This was our tour guide in front of the entrance to Wright's studio which is contiguous to the house.
These decorations to the front of the studio depict the book of life and the flamingoes represent loyalty and wisdom.
