Ljubljana

These are the doors to the Cathedral. That's Pope John Paul at the top, the Polish pope.
There's a beautiful river flowing through the city with nice bridges.

This is the view from the top where the castle is.

This is their poet. Slovenia just became a country in 1991. They used one of his poems for their national anthem.
Their renowned architect is Pleichnik.
Above is the stairway for the university library. 65,000 students attend this school. Below is Pleichniks signature, the Pegasus. We liked this place a lot.

Postoyna Caves

On the way to Ljubljana we stopped off at this cave. A little train runs through it. There is one km of walking in the middle.

It photographs better than real life.

Trieste

Trieste is a port at the top of the Istria peninsula. It's been transferred from country to country over the years.
This is the James Joyce bronze. He lived here for 10 years off and on and wrote a lot of his early stuff here.
This city has the largest piazza on the water. It's huge.

Also very close went to see the Lipica horses at their farm. These are the royal horses from 1600.

Istria

This is Rovinj. There is no beach. People climb down and sun on the rocks.
To me it looks like a stage set.
It's exquisite.
This is the harbor.

Below is Motovin. A famous hilltown.
I admit I can't do rocks or hills anymore.
This is the amphitheater in Pula. It's at the bottom. Tom Jones was here yesterday.
I'm tired of rocks and hill towns. Heading back to civilization.

Zagreb

We Zagreb is the capital with 800,000 people. There are 4 million people in the country.
This is Thomas our pedicab driver. This city has beautiful parks and buildings and hills!
Also it's very clean. They hose it down every night.

Sometimes this country has been free sometimes controlled by another country. When the Hapsburg Empire controlled it building s were painted yellow.
Yellow was Maria Teresa s favorite color.

A sculptor named Mestrovic did this work below and the one of Tesla.
This is Tesla. Both the Serbs and the Croats claim him. He lived here for a while.
This is a good place. You should come here.

Split

So Diocletian had this vision. The palace is 300 meters square. Therefore it is a city. This place is a zoo with waves and waves of cruise ship people and buses of tourists.
And when I say it's a city I mean there are hotels and restaurants with in the thing.
So here we see someone built this bell tower.
These guys are college students making money during the summer.
Here is Ed with the guys.
This is their opera house. All I say is:  don't come in the summer.

Mostar

Driving along the road to Mostar.
Beautiful scenery.
In the background is the bridge.  This place is a zoo. We chatted with a guy who was wounded 3 times and his brother was killed before age 27. Many bitter people
Just something that looked interesting.
