Yerba Buena & The Steins Collect

This is a shot of the sign outside of the SF Museum of Modern Art where they were featuring an exhibition entitled "The Steins Collect." It was about a family named Stein who lived in SF but who moved to Paris around 1904 and began collecting Picasso and Matisse. It was an amazing group of paintings and we're glad we got to see it.

Right across the street from the SFMOMA is Yerba Buena which is SF's convention center. This structure encompasses an entire city block and it's a great park and water fountain system with a restaurant at the top. Very nice.

Shots of San Francisco

Approaching the Ferry Building.

Inside the Ferry Building. It took me 2 days to solve the mystery but I now know that this part of San Francisco was created after the 1989 earthquack when the Embarcadero freeway was demolished. In its place they created a huge tourist attraction, part of which is the Ferry Building. We went there on Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend and the crush of people was overwhelming. It's a huge building with all kinds of wonderful food shops from pastries to candies to fruit, everything.

Walker told us not to miss this restaurant which is also in the Ferry Building. It's impossible to get a reservation at this place over the phone but if you are there in person they will give you one.

A very nice restaurant.

Another shot of the many shops.

Water, water everywhere.

Legon of Honour Museum

Shades of the Louvre. Their own skylight courtyard.

Rodin's Three Graces. There's a lot of Rodin here.

View from the steps of the museum.

This is the courtyard.

Another shot beyond The Thinker.

Another shot of the view from the front steps.

DeYoung Museum

I copied this dress. It was hard for me to part with it. The docent gave an excellent presentation about how Balenciaga was influenced by his Spanish Catholic youth.

There was a special Balenciaga Exhibition. It took me back. Look at this pooch back dress. I copied all of these creations with my Singer sewing machine. No wonder at a garage sale someone asked "why do you have all of these costumes?" Oh, well.

Overview of the layout.

Close up of the Arch.

View from the 9th Floor Tower in the DeYoung

I'm sure the architect meant this stairway to convey this illusion.

In the distance the new Science Center designed by Renzo Piano. This is a 98% green building.

This fountain is on the way to the museum. The Tower is in the distance.

Giant's Baseball on a Thursday afternoon.....

Heading downtown on Caltrain.

Look how much effort they expended on the landscaping.

Chatting with Len.

Outside the stadium.

This is AT&T park right on the Bay. Beautiful.

Me and my friend Lenny in front of the Ghirardelli Chocolate cablecar. He arrived at the stadium by boat from the North. Ed and I took Caltrain from the South.

The park is located right next to the Marina.

The statue of Juan Marichal who was a hero when I was growing up.

This is Willie Mayes' statue.

Hwy 1 between Paso Robles and Pacifica

This is the view from our apartment in Pacifica. That bay is full of surfers.

My nephew, J.P.'s shopping center

This is a photo of the third floor restaurants, which my nephew tells me is "risky."

This part of L.A. used to be a ghetto.

My nephew works in Santa Monica. His company owns and manages shopping centers all over the U.S.

Here we are approaching his latest innovative shopping mall.

This is it!

He tells me it is impressive because it has both a Nordstrum and a Bloomingdales.

Our neighborhood in Manhattan Beach

Our place was up the street from the beach. This is a famous surfer beach named "El Porto" which (of course) means "the door" in Spanish.

Manhattan Beach is truly a surfing town.

This was one of the better looking houses along The Strand where we walked the dogs and watched the surfers.

There is surfing all up and down this coast.

If it looks cold it's because it was cold. Highs were in the 60s.
